Effie's "why" was born on a hot day in her youth, with a fierce, protective fire ignited by an injustice against her cousin. But the most important lesson came afterwards, from her grandmother — who taught her that true strength wasn't in the heat of confrontation, but in the quiet, consistent work of building others up.
She watched her grandmother buy supplies in bulk, not for their house, but to be packaged and given away — seeding small businesses and creating a network of mutual support. That lesson — give without expecting anything in return, and in doing so, build a community — is the foundation of everything Effie does today.

Basingstoke Unites Against Racism (BUAR)
Reaching over 1,500 young people across 8 educational institutions, this programme has fundamentally altered the relationship between law enforcement and the Black community in Basingstoke. Published as national best practice by the College of Policing.
Kikoi Connection CIC
Chair & Founder
A recognised hub for Black community matters in Basingstoke, encompassing six Black and Asian community groups with a collective reach of over 800 members and an online audience of 30,000+. Historic milestones include the first Black History Month and Windrush flag-raising ceremonies.
BAME Inquiry & Policy Change
Hampshire County Council
Collaborative work with the former local MP shaped a comprehensive BAME inquiry into racism and discrimination, leading to significant policy changes in Hampshire County Council's Children's Department and establishing a monitoring reference group across policing, NHS, and civic inclusion.

Kikoi Connection
An annual celebration elevating over 100 individuals and organisations for their contributions to the community. Feedback consistently praises Effie's ability to 'change the narrative of inactive Black communities' and 'inspire further change while appreciating the work already done.'
